When Wellington Central Library closed suddenly in March due to earthquake safety concerns, there was an outpouring of concern for the Sir Ian Athfield-designed building, the around 350,000 books and the 100 staff.

"Anywhere I go, people ask me about the Central Library," says Laurinda Thomas, libraries and community spaces manager for Wellington City Council. "I think the reaction has been really significant." ...
