Join us again this year by nominating LIANZA members who have demonstrated outstanding achievements and contributions to librarianship and information management.
LIANZA professional recognition award categories include Fellowships, Associateships, Professional Excellence, and Letters of Recognition. Find out more about these awards and nominate yourself or a colleague by May 30, 2024.
“LIANZA credentials are an amazing way to recognise your colleagues or demonstrate your own journey and progress in the profession. The Associateship is a mark of recognition from senior peers in the profession that you meet the knowledge and professional standards expected of a librarian in today’s changing world. People put forward for professional recognition awards are often genuinely humbled at being recognised by their peers and find it hugely meaningful to be recognised in that way. We encourage everyone to think about who you can recognise (including yourself!) for the contribution, knowledge, and skills, that help to move our profession forward.”
Laurinda Thomas, LIANZA Credentials Committee Chair, LIANZA past-president and Manager, Libraries and Community Spaces at Wellington City Libraries.
LAST YEAR’S AWARD WINNERS TALK ABOUT THEIR AWARD
“The evening following the awarding of my Fellowship I received an excited call from my daughter in Auckland. She had just watched the ceremony filmed by one of her friends from school who now works as a Librarian in Christchurch. She was so proud of me as were all of my family. My 84-year-old mum, too. Being part of library associations, whether LIANZA or in Vanuatu and Samoa, have been the golden thread that has sustained my passion for my profession through all of the ups and downs. Recognition by the profession means a lot – not just for me but also for my loved ones who have supported me on my journey.”

“Getting my award was a wonderful surprise and something that still hasn’t quite sunk in.
In recent years my work has taken me a bit beyond core ‘library’ work. The award helped me feel connected to the profession and it was wonderful to think that my work was being noticed.”
Philip Miles
“My awarding of a 2023 LIANZA Letter of Recognition for my mahi participating in and chairing the Professional Registration Board was a lovely surprise. While it was very gratifying for me that my efforts supporting the New Zealand library community were acknowledged, it also put the Professional Registration Board into the spotlight. This was fantastic as it is such an important part of recognising ongoing learning, growth in our chosen profession, and a level of quality assurance in what we do as library and information professionals. I warmly encourage you to apply for the 2024 awards.”
Adrian Jenkins
“Receiving a LIANZA letter of recognition at the LIANZA 2023 Conference has been a real honour. The certificate is framed and placed on my work desk and has drawn positive comments and compliments from colleagues and friends alike. I wish to publicly thank my LIANZA Murihiku community, particularly the committee, who endorsed my nomination. With the support and energy of these wonderful professionals, we together strive towards serving the LIANZA vision of a thriving library and information sector.”
