GRANT FUNDING FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION QUALIFICATIONS

If you are planning to start a new library and information qualification then you may be eligible to apply for a grant from the LIANZA SLANZA Tertiary Grant Project.

A grant to cover tertiary qualification fees may be available to you. This includes qualifications relevant to public, school, tertiary, national and special libraries, and whānau, iwi and marae collections of taonga tuku iho.

Applications are available to people who are:
  • Seeking to undertake library and information qualifications including certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, postgraduate certificates, postgraduate diplomas and master's degrees at either Victoria University of Wellington, Open Polytechnic, Te Wānanga o Raukawa or Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
For more information on these tertiary providers go here.
  • You may be new to or already working in the library and information sector, starting your first library and information qualification, or you may be starting a new higher-level library and information qualification.
  • Grants will provide funding for tertiary fees. Consideration will also be given to funding other costs such as childcare, accommodation, travel, technology and research-related costs.

LEARN ABOUT WORKING IN A LIBRARY

Watch the video to learn more about working in a library and information service.

The work library and information professionals do is varied and depends on the library you may work in. You might be working with children and young people in a school library or finding research and information online in an academic library (such as a university). Or you may be running Storytime's or digital access training activities in a public library.

If your strengths include being digitally savvy, understanding Te Ao Māori, if you have good research and people skills then this interesting line of work may suit you.

Whether you are already working in a library or information service, or you are entirely new to this area, we want more people working in our libraries and information services who are qualified and who represent the communities we work with all over Aotearoa.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Perpetual Guardian manage the applications for this funding. Go here to register with Perpetual Guardian.

  • You will do this on the Perpetual Guardian Funding Hub.
  • On the hub you will need to say that you are applying as an individual and type in LIANZA SLANZA tertiary grants when answering ‘Which grant or scholarship were you interested in?”
  • Once you have submitted your registration request, Perpetual Guardian facilitate your registration, and ensure that you can then log-in and apply for a grant.  It may take a day or two (max). This account can be used for other grant applications you may have with them.
  • When you have logged into the funding hub (see below) you will see the button on the left Apply for Funding. Click on that link. This hub will keep a record of all your applications and reports.
  • You will be taken through to the list of current funding opportunities, where you will find a link to the LIANZA SLANZA funding.
  • Once in, the application process will ask you questions on your eligibility, your background, qualifications, work history, reasons for applying, budget and costs, your educational goals, referee details and other questions. You will need to tell the assessment committee what makes you a great fit for the grant.
  • You will need to provide a reference and a record of academic achievement.
